This technique aims to generate a large number of ideas in a short period of time by maximising the creativity of the participants. Brainstorming can be both structured and unstructured and promotes free expression and open-minded thinking.
What is the purpose of brainstorming?
The brainstorming process typically begins with the definition of a clear problem or question. All participants are encouraged to express their ideas spontaneously and without restriction. The rule is that every idea is welcome and no criticism may be expressed. This creates an open and positive atmosphere in which creative and unusual solutions can emerge. A moderator chairs the session and ensures that the ideas are recorded and made visible to everyone, often on a whiteboard or flip chart.
Advantages of brainstorming
A major advantage of brainstorming is that it promotes teamwork. When everyone involved can contribute their ideas and perspectives, a collective thought process often results in more innovative and diverse solutions. Brainstorming strengthens collaboration within the team and encourages participants to build on and develop each other's ideas. This iterative process can lead to surprising and effective solutions that would not have been achieved individually.
In addition, brainstorming helps to identify and analyse problems. By considering different perspectives, teams can better understand the root of an issue and address it in a targeted way. Brainstorming helps to identify both obvious and hidden challenges and find creative ways to overcome them.
How does brainstorming work?
At our company, we use brainstorming either in meetings in the office or online with Miro to work together as a team. These tools and platforms support the process and enable us to work together effectively even over long distances. The brainstorming session is followed by an evaluation of the collected ideas. In this phase, the ideas are sorted, evaluated and further developed. The most promising approaches are worked out in more detail and checked for feasibility. This process ensures that the best ideas are not only generated but can also be implemented in a concrete way.
How does brainstorming help solve problems?
Brainstorming is an indispensable method for fostering creativity and innovation in teams. It creates a space in which many ideas can be generated in a short period of time and supports collaborative problem-solving. By encouraging collaboration and free thinking, brainstorming is essential to developing effective and innovative solutions that ensure a company's long-term success. The central aspect of brainstorming is the actual session, in which ideas can flow freely and creatively.
